Some happy endings....and much happier beginnings

Look at this cute, little thing which George and his wife adopted from a shelter. Beware, he just might steal your heart. This all white pup has a brown face and has two large circular back spots. Will ask George to capture that too :) Meanwhile they have named him Jackie. Jackie is busy throwing puppy tantrums! They are settling down in their new role as parents. Wish them all the luck people.

Remember Gubbi? Yes she is going home with Yasmine. On last count she was taking care of scores of cats and dogs. Mind you she has a day job and probably touches the life of many more needy animals. Lady, you just amaze me.
Another mutt puppy went home this weekend to a loving family. Thanks Subbu. Hope you will soon send us pictures and stories.

Sleep well, sweet one.

Two weeks ago, sushruta posted about this Dalmation in the adoption blog

She wrote:
Can you believe that this beautiful and affectionate girl was thrown out of the house and abandoned as her sight diminished. She is very affectionate and has a very keen sense of smell. She will quickly locate the biscuit you place for her and if you are not told you would not believe that her eyesight is fading. She needs an affectionate house where she can be looked after and pampered silly. Don't forget she needs extra care because of her eyesight.

Well, she died last week before she could be rehomed.

She didnt have many years left in her and in her last days, she deserved to die in a home. She did not have to die alone in a shelter with noone to hold her as she slipped away. I know there are some of you out there who wonder how you can adopt an animal when you are working 9-5 or because you dont have the time to take the dog for walks. Maybe you are strapped for time and you dont have the energy to to train or play with a dog. This is the kind of dog that needs your help. All this blind dog needed was a warm place and love during her last days.

Please, kind people, if you can help these abandoned darlings..who are left alone to die for no reason other than that they are old, weak and no longer able to breed pricey pups...if you can give them a home before they die, please let us know. We can match the right pet for the right guardian. If you know someone who is interested in adopting the strays, please dont hesitate to give our contact details.

Give these dogs a new lease of life

These two mixed breed dogs were rescued by Kartik from Queen's Veterinary Hospital. The owners wanted these dogs to be put down as they don't want to keep them anymore! These perfectly healthy dogs deserve to live. As you can see a little care and love and a home will do wonders to them. Please help us find them a home where they would be cared for and loved. Please leave a comment or drop a mail at adoptstrays@gmail.com.

She needs an affectionate house where she can be looked after and pampered silly. Don't forget she needs extra care because of her eyesight.

Name: *
Breed: Mixed
Age: *
Details: This chirpy, little boy is an absolute bundle of joy. The deformed front legs add to his cuteness and in no way hamper his energy levels or playfullness. Though this is why he was thrown out may be. Meet him to believe his enthusiasm.
Status: This happy dog has been adopted!

They found a home and love

If all goes well and as planned, these three pooches will be going home with their respective owners this Saturday. While we were there another adult female GSD was being adopted. Thanks to these people these doggies will see a new home soon. Don't forget many others are waiting....

Left to be killed: Mudhol Hound for Adoption

Name: Meera
Breed: Mudhol Hound
Temperament: Very affectionate
Details: She had been given to the Dog Pound in Koramangala for euthanasia (read killing) by people who would rather not have the responsibilty of raising her! Shocking but true. Yes, she has not been euthanised (thanks to the shelter) as she can be a wonderful pet and comapanion for someone with an estate or large grounds or open space. She has been vaccinated and neutered. Currently, she is at the shelter, recovering from minor ailments and malnutrition. If you feel she deserves to live and needs a loving home then please help her.

Will upload her pictures soon.

Lost/Abandoned Adult Dogs for Adoption

A host of adult dogs, lost or unfortunately abandoned, need loving homes. Please adopt and spread the word. Will post details of each dog in subsequent posts. Meanwhile have a look at these needy animals.

Adopting adult dogs is a rewarding experince and has lots of benefits. An article about the benefits of adopting adult dogs from the SPCA site is pasted below:
Adult Dogs Have Many Advantages
Most dogs given to shelters are young adolescents. They don't usually have behavior problems, they were just victims of well-meaning owners who didn't have the time, knowledge or patience for the needs of a dog.
While many shelter dogs could use a little more training, they usually bond quickly with new owners, and have fewer needs than a young puppy.
Many shelter dogs are already housetrained, though they often need some reminders and a few days of adjustment time after their stay at a shelter kennel. Even if they were sadly kept outdoors only, adult dogs often only need a day or two to learn that they live inside, but eliminate outside.
Many shelter dogs have already lived with children. People often assume that they should start with a puppy if they have children. Puppies have sharp baby teeth and can play too roughly with young children. There are many adult dogs in the shelter that are recommended for households with children. And, teaching children about the moral benefits of saving the life of a homeless adult pet is a lesson that will never be forgotten.
Adult dogs are easier to train than young puppies because they have longer attention spans. And many shelter dogs already know some basic commands taught in their first home or by shelter volunteers.
Dogs are generally more predictable. A dog isn't full-grown until it's a year old, so when adopting an adult dog you already know it's full size, health and real personality.
Dogs mature out of their "teenage phase" until they are often two years old. Adopting an older pet means that someone else already had his or her shoes chewed and you get the benefit of a dog who is more mellow and allows you to finish the entire newspaper.
Don't discount a dog that is approaching a senior age. Even an eight-year-old dog has the likelihood of many more good years to give you. A senior dog often offers the sweetest rewards.
You are taking a stand against the dog overpopulation crisis and saving an animal that will bond quickly with you, and shower you with gratitude and unconditional love.
